Welcome to the church of St. Michael and All Angels,
East Coker. We are a Church of England church, part of the Coker Ridge Benefice which was formed in 2011 and includes the
parishes of Closworth, Sutton Bingham, Hardington, East Chinnock, Pendomer and West Coker served by a Rector and Assistant
East Coker is known to many as the title of one of T.S. Eliot's Four
Quartets. The poet's ashes are interred in the church.
St. Michael's has been a centre of Christian worship since its construction
in the thirteenth century. You will find details of our pattern of Services
by following the link. We hope you visit us (the church is open during
the day) and find something
of God's love, joy and peace here. Everyone is welcome at our services
and to use the church for private prayer.
St. Michael's and All Angels church is at the heart of our community,
adjacent to the fine fifteenth century manor house of Coker Court, the
seat of the Lords of the Manor of East Coker, and close to the 19th century
Vicarage, which is still in use.
The historic village of East Coker was mentioned in the Domesday Survey
of 1086 and remains a thriving community of over 1700 people.
